Suzanne Farnell of Woodland, Washington, began studying violin at age 14. She studied violin with Matt Mandrones, former concertmaster of the Southwest Washington Symphony and high school orchestra director at Evergreen High School, for about 5 years. She is currently studying with Dr. Jo Nardolillo at the University of Puget Sound.
Suzanne has performed with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Southwest Washington Symphony, Southwest Washington Chamber Orchestra, and was the concertmaster for the Southwest Washington Youth Philharmonic for two years. She performs regularly with the UPS Symphony Orchestra, UPS String Orchestra, plays for special events and also at her church, God's Word Baptist Church.
Besides playing violin, Suzanne is interested in teaching and conducting. She has had a violin studio for the past 5 years and enjoy putting together recitals and concerts for the community. Suzanne is also a pianist. She took 10 years of piano lessons. She studied with Martin Kauble of Longview for 7 years and is currently studying with Dr. Duane Hulbert at the University of Puget Sound.
After two years of participation in the Washinton State Running Start program at Lower Columbia College, Suzanne transferred to the University of Puget Sound and is currently working towards a B.A. In Music Education. During the summers Suzanne enjoys going to music festivals such as the MasterWorks Festival in Indiana.
In addition to her many musical interests, Suzanne also enjoys working with animals, woodworking, and a wide variety of outdoor activities. When she's not at school in Tacoma, she lives with her family on a small farm where she raises llamas and a few goats. Her family spends a lot of time together backpacking, fishing, caving, and downhill skiing among other things.
