MasterWorks Update

By Suzanne Farnell

Yes, at last I am finally taking a few minutes to update you on what I've been doing here at MasterWorks. I've got some pictures to post too. Hope you enjoy!

My friend Hannah (cellist that I met last year) and I on her 21st Birthday

After the outdoor concert that we did the first Saturday we were here there were a whole bunch of fireworks down on the lake. I hung out with a few friends and tried to get some good pictures...as you can see a tripod would have been very helpful.

My roommate, Anna Maria, playing at the ice cream shop after the fireworks. She's from North Carolina. She's always cold, I'm always hot. It's pretty funny. We have a lot of fun together though.

Jake and Hannah Muzzy playing in the faculty recital. They met each other here at MasterWorks three years ago. They have a little boy and another baby on the way. They were only here the first two weeks though.

Alan is another of the cello faculty members. He was only here the first week though. I got this picture taken with him the night before he left. (You're probably wondering why I know all the cellists......)

Yes, I know, this isn't a very good picture. But it's the best one I have of Kalaen! (at least I think that's how you spell her name) She's in the theatre program. She was here last year but I didn't get to know her until this year. I took this at the Theatre Improve night. That happened on Wed of week 2 and it was so much fun. After the Improve performance they had an Enactive prayer service. It was very interesting and kinda strange at first. They asked the audience for prayer requests and then they acted them out as a prayer....I'm not sure if I explained that very well but it was really cool. Anyways...

Ahh, yes. Work service. So much fun. I got most of my work service hours by helping Ben with lighting in Rodeheaver (the place we perform). I finished my required work service hours last night. Yes! (I had been getting up before breakfast so that I would have time to practice and do work service each day. Now I get to sleep until time for breakfast. It's so much better. But I like doing work service so I will still help out whenever I have extra time) Anyways, this is a picture of me re-wiring a plug for Ben. He made me re-wire it about 6 times because all the plugs were bad...I was starting to wonder if he was really just testing my patience to see how long I would keep happily re-wiring plugs. hehe. He finally found one that worked though. He also had me put gels (colored pieces of plastic) in the lights (for the dance performance), hang different lights from different points on the ceiling, and all kinds of fun stuff.

Inserting gels in the lights

I tried to get a good picture of the dance performance...They danced the Firebird. It was pretty impressive. The orchestra accompaniment was impressive too. They all did so well. It was fun to watch the dance performance this year, last year I was playing in the orchestra.

My violin teacher, Alana, for the first two weeks this year. She taught me soooo much! I can't even believe I'm really the one playing when I play my violin now, it sounds that much different! I wrote everything she told me down in my journal so I won't forget it and so I can work on it with my teacher when I get home. I can't BELIEVE how many bad habits I have. She was such a fun teacher and I was sad to see her leave last weekend. I like my new teacher though. I'm going to learn a lot from him too.

Brandon and David

Libby and I....I don't know how Brandon got away with giving me "bunny ears" without me noticing until several hours later when we were hanging out after the concert and I was looking at my pictures. He was pretty pleased with himself.

My stand partner from the 2nd week

Daniel and Ashley

and a String Bass Quartet! Awesome! hehe. They played at the gong show last night. The gong show is basically a talent show where everyone trys to do something funny.

Okay, so now you have pictures and a little bit of an idea of what I've been doing. If you're curious about anything just ask me. I know this isn't a very detailed report of what I've been doing but at least it's an update. Now I'm going to eat dinner....in the nasty cafeteria....I can't wait until the weekend when I can go get some real food again!

I'm still watching for mail from some of you guys!
