On the way home, David got rear-ended on the freeway. Apparently, the driver of the car that rear-ended him fell asleep at about 11:30 p.m. while we were heading home from our backpacking trip. He ended up rear-ending David's Chevy Astro Van with about a 20 mph impact. We were following in another car, so Christina (driving) saw it all. The rest of us were sleeping, etc, but woke up in time to see tail lights disappearing off the side of the freeway. Click here to see pictures of us fixing up the back of David's van.
Emergency vehicles responded quickly.

When the car hit, David's seat back fell flat backwards, so he lost control for a second but was able to sit back up and pull off to the side of the freeway. He and one of his daughters have some minor back problems, but the chiropractor is taking care of them.
Anyway, after rear-ending David, this car took off across the whole freeway, narrowly missed a cement post under an over crossing, went up over a mound of dirt about 5 feet high, and flew through the air and landed on a railroad track. He slid down the track a long ways and ended up upside down. By the time we got near his car, he had crawled out and was fine, just a shook up - miracles do happen.
