Meeting at the rest stop. Parking area. The steep trail. Resting at the top. Christmas Canyon.
Gearing up at Scroll Canyon Caves. Taffy-like formation on the ceiling of Scroll Canyon Cave #2. Entrance of Scroll Canyon Cave #2. Entrance of Scroll Canyon Cave #3. Preparing to start mapping.
Garry kept book, Chris read the instrument, Edd pulled tape (yeah right), I (Matthew) took pictures and pushed a few leads with Tracy. Chris read the instrument. Garry. Formations in Scroll Canyon Cave #1. Rippled floor in Scroll Canyon Cave #1.
Edd was the tape puller (yeah right...the laser does it all these days) Scroll formation in Scroll Canyon Cave #1. Kim the photographer. Roots at the end of Scroll Canyon Cave #1. Roots at the end of Scroll Canyon Cave #1.
Charlie in Scroll Canyon Cave #1. Garry climbing out of Scroll Canyon Cave #1. Chris climbing out of Scroll Canyon Cave #1. Lunch break. Lunch break.
Cool little fern-like plants at the entrance to Scroll Canyon Cave #2. Preparing to map Scroll Canyon Cave #3. Kim going into Scroll Canyon Cave #3. Tracy in the BIG room in Scroll Canyon Cave #3. We found out the room is about 50 feet in diameter, but only about 1 - 3 feet high! It had lots of roots and water. Pretty fun. Mapping the big room of Scroll Canyon Cave #3.
Mapping the big room of Scroll Canyon Cave #3. A small passage from the entrance room to the big room of Scroll Canyon Cave #3. It's actually too small for a person, but we can see each other through it. Interesting formation in the lava. Entrance to Scroll Canyon Cave #4. Claude climbing out of Scroll Canyon Cave #4.
Looking up out of the unnamed tree cast erosional cave. Kim taking pictures in the unnamed tree cast erosional cave. We'll have to come back when it's drier to explore and map this one. Entrance to Beaver Bay Cave. Horizontal tree cast from Christmas Canyon cliff to crevice. Very cool tree cast - 3 feet in diameter and you can see the bark outline and even where a branch was on the tree! Picture taken towards Christmas Canyon from inside the tree cast. My camera's batteries were getting low so I couldn't get a picture of the bark outline. Maybe next time. It was a great trip!
