November 21, 2004 - The cavers of Vancouver Island invited us on this wild cave trip. There were 15 cavers on this trip - Suzanne Farnell, Larry McTigue, Scott Linn, me (Matthew Farnell), and lots of other cavers from the Cascade Grotto and VICEG. After you've looked at these pictures, be sure to look at the Vancouver Island pictures and Horne Lake Cave pictures.

Gearing up at the cars. After parking the car, the cave is a three mile hike on an old logging road. There were two quads that ferried packs and people up to the cave, so only about five of us had to walk to the whole way. Here's the logging road we walked up. Looks almost good enough for a 4x4 truck. There were some rough places and small trees across the road, so it was better suited for the quads. The cave is about 200 feet up the hill from this point on the logging road. This is where we left all our extra gear and dry clothes. Blak T Cave entrance.
Suzanne entering the cave. There was a large stream running through most of the cave, so rubber boots were a must. Even with rubber boots, you had to be carefull not to step in a deep spot or the water would fill your boots. There are some nice limestone formations in this cave. Stalactite. More formations.
Suzanne Soda straw formations. Stalactites. More interesting formations. A small pillar.
Lots of soda straws. Our breath made so much steam that photography was a challenge. Mud. Interesting mold. More mold.
Colorful formations. Dirt crawlways - called 'military crawls' Waiting for the evening ferry back to the mainland. Muddy pack and equipment. This was the dirtiest cave I've ever been in. After you've looked at these pictures, be sure to look at the Vancouver Island pictures and Horne Lake Cave pictures.
