Trip Report: It all started when Aaron of the Cascade Grotto told Hester that he would lead a caving trip to Lake Cave, a lava tube near Mt. St. Helens. Standing around the entrance to Perseverance Cave (entrance in center of picture) The last of the crawlway entrance...now on to the walking passage! Plenty of small lava stalagmites. Lava helictite. More lava helictites.
Lots of small lava stalactites.
A pillar with lots of lava stalactites and helictites. This must have been a chunk of the ceiling that broke off. Now that's a tall lava rose! Do you think it formed from boiling lava coming up out of the floor, or from big drips from the ceiling?
Blood red mineral formation. Interesting white mineral formation. Chris exiting the cave.
The whole group preparing to head for the car. Those white spots are drops of water. We got rained on most of the day, but we had a great time anyway!
