Camping is fun but we must remember that fire prevention is everyone's responsibility even while we are camping. Sometimes we get busy having fun and forget what we need to do. We need to be careful when we are camping. When you go to build a camp fire you need to clear out an area 10 feet in diameter around the camp fire spot of all pine needles, sticks, leaves and so forth. Also, never build a fire without a fire ring.A fire ring is a circle of rocks on the ground. The fire ring helps to keep the fire controlled. Always have dirt and water ready to throw on the fire. A shovel and a bucket of water is the best way to do this.

When you are ready to go to bed, make sure your campfire is completely out. Otherwise, if the wind came up in the night, the fire could get big fast and spread to the forest. Then you would really have a mess because you would be camping right next to a huge forest fire! Never leave your campfire while it is still burning. Make sure it is all the way out.
