With winter coming on, several families from Clover Valley Community Church got together at Mattila’s place to cut firewood for the parsonage. Eight cords were cut the first Saturday and about ten cords the second Saturday. Everyone had a great time with good food, fellowship, and hard work. I missed the first Saturday of wood cutting since I was in Chicago attending the Gospelcon 2005 conference. Everyone brought a sack lunch and cut/split/stacked wood from 9 a.m. until late in the day. Most of the wood is going to the parsonage wood shed, with some going to widows and church members.
The second Saturday I was able to help with the wood cutting. Part of Mattila’s land was logged recently, and there are several big stacks of rejected logs out in their field. It makes a very nice place to cut wood, compared to what I’m used to! This time, Betsy fixed lunch for all 31 wood cutters! Everyone ate well and there were still lots of leftovers.
I think the parsonage now has plenty of wood to fill the woodshed. Enough for the winter with some left over to give away to people who might have need of it.
