Yippee!!!! This is the most snow we've had in years. Below are some photos taken around the house. Check out the igloo we made in the front yard by clicking here. I plan to post updated photos of the igloo as the days go by so you can monitor the melting process. Tuesday I submitted a photo of the igloo to the local paper's online photo album, and then Wednesday two different reporters called up and asked about coming up to check it out. Sounded good to me, but I told them it might be hard to get here with all the snow and ice. A reporter and a photographer came, but they walked from the end of the county road, about a half mile through snow. The article is here.

10:18 a.m., January 1st, 2004. The forecast says about one inch of snow today. We're at 700 feet elevation near Woodland, WA. The trees look pretty all snow-covered. Hmmm, we seem to be getting a lot of snow. Suzanne even built a snow bear! We went downtown to Linda's for lunch - this is Jeremiah's snowman from the last storm. This is January 2nd, and we have about 11 inches of snow!!! This is Annie the goat enjoying the snow.
Windy doesn't know if he want's to brave the storm. It's dry in his shed, and there's plenty of hay. This chicken likes walking where the snow's been rolled into snowballs. It's hard walking in snow almost as deep as you are tall! This is the snow-covered van. It doesn't look like it will be leaving home for a while. This baby llama is staying inside where it's warm. Right now he's checking out me and the camera. Works good for me to get a close up shot. The cats like walking where the snows been packed down as well.
The snow must have compacted during the day. This evening we have 10.5 inches. More fresh snow at 9 a.m., January 3rd. Up to 11.5 inches now. The house with snow on it. That's the beginning of the igloo in the front yard. This is January 4th. Wheelbarrows don't work very well in deep snow, so we invented a 'snowbarrow.' Just attach a rope, fill 'er up, and pull. It works great going downhill - just be sure it doesn't catch up with you.
It's extra cold today, so icicles have formed from the gutters. Suzanne went sledding. She even took the dog for a ride on the sled! Matthew tried out his snowboard. Here he's pictured in the air after going over a jump. January 5th. My thermometer dropped to 20.8 last night, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually a couple degrees colder as my thermometer is right by our warm house. I slept out in the igloo! Another icicle - we're expecting more snow this evening.
January 6th. Down below 20 degrees last night! It snowed quite a bit more last night, and it is drifting. Should be turning to sleet and freezing rain soon. Looks like the cats are enjoying the snow. January 7th. Freezing rain last night - everything covered with a half inch of ice. It's awesome, but dangerous. The ice is even on the trees. Quite a few icicles now.
A big icicle. That's our bird hotel way up in the sky towards the lower left hand corner of the picture. Hope the birds are staying warm. Dad's trying to scrape some of the ice off the Jeep. He has to take Christina to work today, even though school is out for him. The ice even stuck to the fence! January 8th - even more freezing rain. Lots of icicles. Trees are cracking and breaking all around. The ice on the trees is even thicker than yesterday.
The ice on all the twigs looks pretty cool. Ice has built up on the fence even more. More ice covered branches. One of our llama sheds fell down from all the weight of the snow and ice! All the llamas are ok, thankfully. Icicles hanging from an old wheel barrow.
The fir branches look cool, too!
