Over the past few months Charlie has been working on a new project – a cedar strip sea kayak. It is built by gluing 3/4 x 1/4" strips of cedar together over a jig. Once the kayak has taken shape, it is removed from the jig and covered with fiberglass cloth and epoxy resin.
Charlie’s kayak is just about done and last week we took it out for a test run on Horseshoe Lake. It works great but is a little harder to steer than a canoe. I think a rudder controlled by the feet might help a lot.
There’s been talk of a canoe/kayak trip up near Vancouver Island this summer. That would be fun. We’ll see if it works out.
